UNICEF’s latest Global Outlook for Children in 2025 paints a stark picture of the obstacles millions of kids are up against. These challenges are interconnected, creating a cycle of hardship that is difficult to break. Here are some of the biggest threats children are facing right now:
1. Conflict is Putting More Kids at Risk
- Over 473 million children—more than one in six globally—are living in conflict zones.
- Schools, hospitals, and homes are being destroyed, leaving children vulnerable to displacement, hunger, and violence.
- The number of children affected by war has nearly doubled since the 1990s.
2. The Global Debt Crisis is Undermining Children’s Futures
- Many governments are spending more on debt payments than on essential services like health care and education.
- Nearly 400 million children live in countries where overwhelming debt prevents investment in their well-being.
- In some low-income nations, governments allocate twice as much to debt payments as they do to health care.
3. Climate Change is Harming the Most Vulnerable
- The world is on track to exceed 2°C of warming by 2100, leading to extreme weather events and food shortages.
- Children under the age of five bear 88% of the global disease burden related to climate change.
- Only 2.4% of international climate funding is allocated to initiatives that are child-focused.
4. The Digital Divide is Growing
- Technology has the potential to revolutionize education and opportunity, but millions of children remain disconnected.
- Only 53% of young people in Africa have internet access, limiting their ability to learn and develop digital skills.
- Girls and children with disabilities face the biggest barriers to accessing technology.
What Can We Do?
These challenges are massive, but change happens when people step up. The world needs action, and that’s where young leaders—like you—come in.
At JamQuest, we are trying to help by providing education to children in Kenya. We believe education is one of the most powerful tools to break the cycle of poverty. When a child has access to school, they gain knowledge, confidence, and the ability to create a better future for themselves and their community.
How You Can Help
You don’t have to be a world leader to make an impact. Here’s how you can take action today:
✅ Start a JamQuest fundraiser – Use your gifts, talents, and resources to help kids in Kenya go to school.
✅ Spread awareness – Share this post and start conversations about the challenges facing children.
✅ Donate to help kids go to school – Just $30 a month keeps a kid in school all year. Donate here!
The future of millions of children is at stake, but we have the power to make a difference. Let’s work together to change the world—one child at a time.
